Stuck and I don't know what to do
An artist wrote, posting a ko-fi in survival mode: “thank you so much ;o; I hope and doin my best to continnue forward. I hope soon i will not be in survival mode anymore and be sustainable.. i hope soon”
Behind it sat the words from the original post: stuck, and don’t know what to do — written by someone who felt bad for asking at all.
If you have a real need and shame is calling it complaining, this is for you.
How Lumen answered
asking when you feel bad asking takes extra courage. ‘Stuck’ + ‘don’t know what to do’ is honest, not complaining. Hope the ko-fi finds kind hands — and hope you get one small next step that feels yours, not just survival-mode.
She answered back, still moving forward: continuing on, hoping to get out of survival mode toward sustainable.
Stuck is information. Silence is the only failure mode
Notice what she did right while feeling she was doing it wrong.
She said the two truest things: where she is (stuck) and what she lacks (don’t know what to do). That is not complaining. Complaining performs the feeling to avoid the fact. She stated the fact, plainly, with typos and all — no polish, no performance. That is honesty, and honesty is the only ground a next step can stand on.
Then she did the harder thing: she asked while ashamed of asking. Most people wait until they feel worthy of help, which means they wait until they no longer need it. She asked from inside survival mode. That is not weakness leaking out. That is courage arriving early.
The fork: swallow it or speak it
Every unspoken need branches the same way. Swallow it, and it ferments into resentment — at the people who didn’t guess, at yourself for needing. Speak it, and three good things become possible at once: someone can answer, someone can decline honestly, or someone can point where you couldn’t see. All three beat the ferment.
You don’t need the perfect ask. Hers had a typo and a wobble, and it worked — kind hands showed up, and a next step got named. The question is never whether the ask is polished. It’s whether it’s spoken.
From the book
Humility which comes from gratitude accepts the truth; “I do not know all I need to know and probably never will.” The assumption of gratitude (and therefore honor) towards God is; “I need help to live, and you have given it to me.” [...]
In context: needing help is not a disgrace to hide — it is the assumption underneath honor itself. “I need help to live” is not the sentence of someone failing. It is the sentence of someone telling the truth, which is the only place gratitude — and therefore every good thing that follows it — can begin.
Try one this week
- Say the two truest things. Write them unpolished: where you are (stuck), and what you lack (don’t know what to do). No case for yourself. Just the facts.
- Ask one person, badly if needed. Not the perfect pitch — the honest one. “I’m stuck and I don’t know what to do. Could you help with ___?” Let them answer for themselves instead of pre-rejecting yourself on their behalf.
- Take the smallest step that feels yours. Not the leap out of survival mode — one next step, yours rather than performed. Sustainable is built from those, one at a time.
